The Graft Master

Ampol Orrungroj is credited with grafting the first plumeria in the US in the early ’90’s. When the PSA heard about it, they asked Ken Ames to videotape his technique. Ken did and then took the tape to Houston to show them.

He runs Ampol’s Nursery in northern San Diego and is a noted grower of plumerias and poinsettias, plus many other types of plants. Few can grow healthier plants than Ampol.

In 2013 while tutoring some grafting newbies – which I had the privilege of being one of those newbies – Dawn Sullivan documented the lesson and produced a wonderful photo tutorial of Ampol’s grafting method.
